Food Services and Resources
A variety of food services and resources are made available to students to assist those facing food insecurity while attending FRC. The services listed below provide free or low cost meals throughout each semester, and students are encouraged to access resources in the community as needed.
CalFresh is a Federal Assistance program for people whose funds for food are limited or non-existent. If approved, you will be issued a debit card that can be used like a regular bank card at grocery stores and other participating locations. You may purchase anything with a nutritional label on it, excluding hot or prepared foods.
The Basic Needs Program staff are located in the Student Wellness and Success Center are available to assist students through the application process. Please schedule a time to meet with our Basic Needs Coordinator HERE, (Drop-ins also welcome).
- Working and getting paid for at least 20 hours per week or a total of 80 hours a month on average
- Approved (or awarded or accepted) for federal or state work study, anticipates working, and have not refused a work assignment (can still be eligible even if a work study job has not begun or is not currently available)
- Receiving Cal Grant A or B
- Exerting parental control over a dependent household member under the age of 6 OR between the age of 6 and 12 with no adequate childcare (as determined by the county on a case-by-case basis) OR are a single parent of a dependent household member under the age of 12
- Participating in the CalFresh Employment and Training Program (CFET) or Job Opportunities and Basic Skills (JOBS), or be a recipient of CalWORKs or Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC)
- NEW - Enrolled in a Local Programs that Increase Employability (LPIE) - Most CTE programs qualify.

- Print a copy of your Financial Aid Award Letter
- Login to MyFRC — click on “financial aid,” then “college financing plan", select the current term and print the webpage, OR take screenshots.
- Print a copy of your Student Schedule
- Login to MyFRC — click on “student profile,” then “student schedule,”, select the current term, then select the "print" icon.
- Get a copy of your Lease Agreement
- If you live in the dorms, request a copy from the dorm office.
- If not a dorm resident, ask your landlord or property manager for a copy.
- LPIE Verification Letter
- Contact the Student Wellness and Success Center and speak with a staff member to receive your LPIE Verification Letter.
- If you are eligible you may have received an email with your LPIE Verification Letter.
- Work Study Letter
- Go to the Student Employment page. Follow the links to view student job opportunities and apply for the job you would like to have.
- You may need to create an account. Your username and password DO NOT default to your MyFRC credentials.
- After applying you will receive two emails from HR@frc.edu , confirming your recent application submission.
- Print or Screenshot the email titled, "Student Eligibility Letter" and upload this document to your CalFresh application as your "Work Study Letter".
- If you do not receive the emails immediately, check your spam/junk folder.
- Print or Screenshot the email titled, "Student Eligibility Letter" and upload this document to your CalFresh application as your "Work Study Letter".
- If students have already applied for a job in the last semester please contact the Student Wellness and Success Center staff for assistance with getting a "Work Study Letter".
- Go to the Student Employment page. Follow the links to view student job opportunities and apply for the job you would like to have.
- Driver’s License and/or FRC Student ID
- Prior CalFresh? Ask your parents if you are on any food assistance through them in California or any other state you reside in.
Complete Phone Interview
- Phone Interview with a caseworker from Plumas County Social Services is your final step for your CalFresh application.
- Phone Interview will take up to 30 minutes to complete.
- Make sure to not miss this call, as you will need to reschedule if you fail to complete the interview.

- You will receive your EBT card by mail following the completion of your phone interview.

Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m
Fridays: 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Stocked with non-perishable food items and hygienic supplies, any hungry student currently enrolled at FRC is welcome. Students may recieve a bag of groceries up to twice a month. Bring a bag or backpack to carry your items.
The pantry is located in the Student Lounge.

The Basic Needs Center is able to assist with groceries for students experiencing food insecurity. Please fill out the Request Form below and follow the instructions to qualify for free groceries to be picked up upon request in the Student Wellness and Success Center.
- Lost Sierra Food Project seeks to address the root cause of food insecurity and environmental degradation from agriculture, while empowering our community to create lasting solutions. Students who receive CalFresh EBT are elgible for multiple different tiers to participate in the Affordable Produce Program.
- Basic Needs Program at FRC has also purchased “Farm Bucks” for FRC students that can be used at the weekly farm stand, honor system farm fridge, and for purchasing flowers, ALL berries, and pumpkins. Stop by the Student Wellness and Success Center and speak with a staff member about receiving Farm Bucks for the 2024 season.
FRC students are invited to attend a free dinner once a week sponsored by the Quincy Methodist Church. The dinner is open to all Quincy community members.
Time: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Location: Quincy Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 282 Jackson St.
