Do you have an interest in healthcare? Do you enjoy learning about the science of health and disease? Do you care about people and their quality of life? Do you want a flexible job where you can make a difference while earning a great salary?
Nurses are healthcare professionals that have a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals and populations. Nurses provide care for the whole person, often during their most challenging, painful, wonderful, and/or fearful times in their lives. From giving medications, to performing rapid interventions in emergency situations, to offering a gentle hand or listening ear, nurses make a difference.
Demand for nurses is expected to grow at faster rate than any other occupation, and nursing shortages are projected to continue into the next decade. If you are interested in a well-paying, dynamic, and impactful career, then nursing is for you!
Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) are employed in a wide variety of settings, such as:
- Acute care hospitals
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Rehabilitation hospitals
- Doctors’ offices and clinics
- Public health departments
- Home health care
- Jail/correctional facilities
- Schools and educational institution
- and so many more...
As a hands-on care provider, LVNs make a difference in their patients’ wellbeing and health in every setting.
Those that are interested in continuing up the nursing career ladder can progress by enrolling in a bridge program, also known as LVN-to-RN step up program. Typically, this involves 12-18 months of additional coursework and clinical instruction before obtaining licensure as an RN.
Nurses that are interested in obtaining leadership roles in their field can continue on to obtain Master’s degrees in Nursing Education, Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, Nurse Anesthetist, and Clinical Nurse Specialist. Those that are interested in nursing research or advanced practice can obtain their PhD or Doctorate of Nursing Practice, respectively.
Wherever you are on the Nursing Pathway, you will find interesting, diverse, and incredible opportunities while making a difference in peoples’ lives.
