Whether you enjoy reading or want to fine-tune your ability to express yourself, the English department combines both creative and analytical areas of study. The study of English provides a solid foundation in communication and analytical skills that support and develop expertise in many careers. The program offers an A.A. in English and leads to transfer at any four-year school or university. The faculty in the English department are supportive and provide mentoring to their students.

The department strives to create a community of thinkers who are ready to engage a quickly changing world. At FRC you will benefit from personal attention and you will be able to explore a variety of specialty areas, such as social justice, environmental and regional literature, creative writing, as well as foundational explorations in literary and theoretical history and analysis. The English department maintains close relationships with the Environmental Studies and the Studio Arts departments.
