The Sociology Associate Degree (A.A.) is designed for students who may not transfer to a four-year university, or who may want to trasnfer to an out-of-state university.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Sociology program coursework, students will be able to:
- Understand the interrelationships of individuals, social groups, social institutions, culture and society.
- Analyze the interaction of individuals, social groups, social institutions, and cultures using social science research methods and major sociological perspectives.
To earn an A.A. in Sociology
- Complete the Major Core Requirements and Major Electives, as outlined above with a minimum grade of “C” or better.
- Complete one fo the following General Education (GE) patterns: FRC GE, CSU Breadtch of IGETC
- Complete electives so that major units, plus GE units, plus elective units total sixty (60) units or higher.

The Sociology Associate Degree for Transfer (A.A.-T) is designed for students who intend to pursue a degree in sociology or a related discipline, and who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. The degree guarantees admission to the CSU system (but not to a particular campus or major). This degree will prepare all students for success in any higher education degree program.

- Analyze the interaction of individuals, social groups, social institutions, and cultures using social science research methods and major sociological perspectives.
To earn an A.A.-T in Sociology
- Complete the Major Core Requirements and Major Electives, as outlined above with a minimum grade of “C” or better.
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in all CSU transferable coursework. Students expecting to transfer to a four-year college or university need to complete the CSU Breadth or IGETC requirements.
- Complete electives so that major units, plus GE units, plus elective units total sixty (60) units or higher.
