Do you want your college degree to be full of adventures? Come experience first-hand what it's like to learn in our 1.2 million acre classroom.
The Environmental Studies (ENVR) and Outdoor Recreation Leadership (ORL) Programs at Feather River College invite you to Recruitment Adventure Days (RAD!) May 2-4th, 2025. Earn a unit of college credit and enjoy our unique offerings through a weekend of rock climbing, white water rafting, prescribed burning, discussions with current students and faculty, and camping under the stars!
Event FAQ's
***This event will be capped at 50 participants so please follow these steps as soon as possible, to ensure your spot!***

- You should recieve a welcome letter via email 48 hours after applying
- If you do not receive a welcome letter, please email admissions-records@frc.edu
- This welcome letter will include an FRC ID number
- If you are in high school, fill out the High School Co-Enrollment Form and secure the required signatures
- This is an important step because it ensures you will receive 1 unit of college credit and tuition will be FREE
- Please note that fees discussed in this form do not apply to RAD participants. All fees will be covered by our Environmental Studies and Outdoor Recreation Leadership Programs
- Fill out your personal information where indicated on the form
- The FRC ID that you received in your welcome email is needed for this form
- The FRC Instructor and FRC Advisor sections will be signed during the RAD weekend
- This form needs to be signed by you, your parent or guardian, and your high school principle
- Save and attach this completed document in the Google Form mentioned in the step #5
- Fill out liability forms
- These need to be signed by your parent or guardian. You will not be able to participate in the weekend activities without these forms

- Attend the Zoom pre-trip planning meeting on Tuesday, April 29 at 6pm

This event is FREE! All you need to do is get to Feather River College in Quincy, California and we will provide the rest: food, camping, fun experiences, academic advising, and the invitation to join our thriving community of students in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Environmental Studies.
In order to secure your spot you need to follow the directions outlined in the "How to Register for RAD".
Nope! Our Environmental Studies and Outdoor Recreation Leadership Programs are open and accessible to anyone. All of our programming is designed to be inclusive, and no experience in the outdoors is needed. Aside from personal clothing, sunscreen, waterbottles and sunglasses we have all of the gear and equipment you need to partake in the weekend's events.
Yes! Lunch and dinner will be provided on Friday. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided on Saturday. We will have simple items for breakfast on Sunday. We will offer a vegetarian and a meat option for meals. If you have additional dietary restrictions, please note them on your registration form. If you have special dietary needs beyond being vegetarian, you may want to consider bringing some of your own food. Our mountain water is beautiful and clean, so please bring a water bottle to fill up during your stay. We will also have coffee and hot water (BYO tea) with breakfast, but please bring your own thermos or mug.
Absolutely! You can join for just Friday, or just Saturday. Please indicate your plans on your registration form so that we can plan accordingly.
Clothing:
- Warm evening wear (it gets cold at night!)
- PJs
- Synthetic/quick-drying clothing for rafting (no cotton!)
- Shorts/leggings
- Sythetic shirt
- Water shoes or tennis shoes (no flip flops!)
- Non-restrictive clothing for rock climbing
- Loose pants, shorts, leggings
Other:
- Sunscreen

- Hat with visor

- Towel (for showers and rafting)

We will sleep in tents or camp under the stars. Current students will be camping with prospective students and we will provide tents, sleeping bags, and pads for students that need them. Bathrooms and showers are available near the camping area.

Apply to FRC - Our Environmental Studies and Outdoor Recreation Leadership Programs are inspiring, affordable, and open to anyone.
Select your classes - The Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Environmental Studies classes are experiential, hands-on, and utilize the surrounding million acre classroom of the Plumas National Forest.
We are hoping to provide a glimpse of the authentic college experience to prospective students during the recruitment weekend. As such, we ask parents and families to have their own plans during the weekend, but we welcome parents and families to join us for evening activities.

Directions to Feather River College
Feather River College is located in the town of Quincy, the county seat of Plumas County. Quincy lies approximately 70 miles Northwest of Reno, NV and Lake Tahoe, and about 70 miles East of Chico and Oroville.
- From Central California: Take State Route 70 North from Oroville to Quincy.
- From Reno: Take Interstate 395 North to the turn-off for State Route 70 at Hallelujah Junction.
- From the Tahoe area: Take State Route 89 North from I-80, to Route 70, and then turn West.
- Drive times vary to Quincy depending on weather conditions. On a clear day it takes about 1.5 hours from Reno, 1 hour from Oroville/Chico and 2.5 hours from Sacramento.
- It may be useful to call Caltrans at 1-800-427-7623 before undertaking winter or other extended travel.
Once on Campus
Once on the campus, park in the main parking lot. The ORL building is directly across from the main parking lot (building # 11 in map linked below). We will meet at the back of this building at 11am on Friday. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
