Beginning the Semester
Welcome to the new semester! To stay on top of your classes, check the class schedule for detailed information about your enrolled courses. Instructors may choose to make online classes available a few days before the official start date and may also contact students via email before the semester begins. However, most classes will not be accessible until the semester officially starts.
Accessing Your Online Class
Make sure to review the FRC Class Schedule to verify your online class start date. Additionally, regularly check your frc.edu email for important updates, including instructor contact details and class website information. If you are unable to access your class, please wait until the scheduled start date before reaching out to your instructor for assistance.
Full or Closed Courses
If a course is marked as "closed," it has reached its maximum enrollment capacity. Students who wish to add a full or closed course must seek permission from the instructor.
Testing Tips
- Disable Pop-up Blockers: Ensure that pop-ups are either disabled or the class website is added to your safe list.
- Close Unnecessary Applications: Shut down all other programs, including instant messengers and email, to prevent distractions and technical issues.
- Set Aside Adequate Time: Allocate enough uninterrupted time to complete the test.
- Minimize Distractions: Inform household members that you are taking a test and need quiet time to focus.
Pop-Up Blockers
Pop-ups can interfere with online quizzes and tests. Be sure to disable pop-up blockers or add the website to your safe list to prevent disruptions.
Online Connections (Wi-Fi Networks)
If you rely on a wireless internet connection, be aware that it may occasionally drop and reconnect. To prevent disconnection issues during tests, it is recommended to use a wired connection for a stable experience.
Plugins
Some courses may require specific browser plugins. Test your browser in advance to ensure you have all the necessary plugins installed. Review the plugin list on your device to identify any missing components.
Technical Support
If you experience technical issues, please submit an IT Help Desk ticket before contacting your instructor. The IT department also provides helpful How-To videos for troubleshooting common problems.
Computer Literacy
Taking an online course requires a basic level of computer literacy and internet proficiency. Students are responsible for ensuring they are technologically prepared for online learning. Be sure to assess your readiness before the semester begins.
Important Reminders
During the first week of class, carefully review the instructor’s expectations and deadlines. Some courses may require specific actions by a certain deadline, and failure to comply may result in being dropped from the course.
