ASFRC - The Student Voice on Campus

The Associated Students of Feather River College (ASFRC) is a self-governing body recognized by the College President and Board of Trustees and is an important component of the college's shared governance structure. ASFRC officers serve on campus committees that are involved in the processes by which policies are made and college actions are determined. ASFRC officers are responsible for bringing committee information back to ASFRC Government meetings for input. And as a reminder, all elected Student Government Officers may also participate in the Student Ambassador Program!

ASFRC Vice President: Maya Cann
My qualifications, background and/or experiences that qualify me for the office are:
I am a Freshman at FRC and play for the indoor and outdoor volleyball team. With being an athlete I have become extremely good at time management skills and have developed leadership skills while being at Feather River. In high school I was an active member of the FFA and would constantly attend meetings to speak about club issues and current events. All these traits and experiences will help me in being a productive Vice President for ASFRC.
My vision for carrying out the mission of the Associated Students of FRC includes:
My vision for Associated Students of FRC is to make our campus a community. With being a smaller school I hope to focus on bringing in all the sports teams and clubs for fun activities. With bringing in all our students we can create a more loving and supportive environment. My goal is for everyone who attends FRC to succeed. By focusing on campus community and making both the clubs and sports happy we can bring in our students for a more inclusive environment.

ASFRC Secretary: Holly Petersen
My qualifications, background and/or experiences that qualify me for the office chosen above are:
My role in leadership started at a young age when I worked in an equine cadet training program. I was only12 and served as a representative for the barn and shared my equine knowledge onto the youth, adults, and children with special needs. At the same time, just a year later, I became the captain of my middle school dance team. This role required me to attend athletic meetings, help with social media, and most importantly lead my team through a successful season. Once I made it into High School, I was a teachers assistant in dance for 2 years. This role required me to grade work, create the weekly schedule, and teach/ role model the skills they were learning. Moving to behind the scenes of school, I was always balancing a job as well. My first job, I ran a whole equine lesson program by myself. I stepped into the role when the boss was pregnant and couldn’t run it anymore. At just 16 I was meeting new family’s and kids every single day and accommodating my lessons to their individual needs. At 17, I worked at another barn, managing her horses exercise schedules and feeding time. At 18, I worked along side of a professional barrel racer trainer. Durning all these leadership roles and jobs, I was also a varsity trap shooter and full time rodeo competitor. Overall, I have always found my self to be a natural born leader with a passion to help others and seek new skills.
My vision for carrying out the mission of the Associated Students of FRC includes:
My visons for this opportunity consist of many different layers. First, this opportunity alone would be an amazing experience that I can further my skills in leadership, people communications and representation. Second, because of my different background of being a rodeo competitor for FRC, I can bring a different perspective to the table that creates opportunity for more ideas. This difference also leads for more areas of promotion. Finally, this opportunity would give me the chance to share my passion for school involvement and how important it is to be apart of something. Overall, I’m eager to share, learn, and grow as a young student.

My qualifications, background and/or experiences that qualify me for this office:
This will be my fourth year attending Feather River college; since I’ve been here I’ve been involved in multiple departments, including the Equine program, the Art department, ORL, and the Forestry and Ecological Agriculture programs. Presently I am involved in our fundraising committee for the FRC Horse Sale & Prep class in which we organize and completely finance our week long sale spring break trip for ourselves and our horses. In addition to that I have spearheaded an inaugural collaborative and student driven coffee table style photo book project between the Equine & Art programs. I’ve worked multiple on and off campus jobs in Plumas County, in Forestry Fuels management positions, Equine, with the Resource Conservation District, and local business's. I’d like to believe that these experiences have lended me a unique perspective and understanding of our campus and the people who work hard within it.
My vision for carrying out the mission of the Associated Students of FRC includes:
It is important that every student attending FRC feels welcome, supported, and able to access equal opportunity to further their education and future careers following the foundations mission statement. If you have spent any degree of time here as a student or instructor, you probably have experienced or witnessed the seclusion between different degrees and academic or athletic programs, and the few amount of collaborative projects and movements between those departments or even the occasional conflict over budgets and resources. It is inevitable, but is not a reflection of the tight knit community in which we live. Because of this I would like to see more collaboration and cooperation between different departments to better create a more unified campus. I believe that I have the nuance and perspective to be able to effectively speak to that while also advocating for the student body and their needs as a whole
