Golden Eagle Cody Anderson and Former Golden Eagle Danny Black Taken in MLB Draft

QUINCY, CA. - Feather River College Golden Eagle freshman pitcher Cody Anderson was selected in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft today by the Tampa Bay Rays and former Golden Eagle standout Danny Black was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 14th round on Tuesday.
Anderson, a 6'4" right handed pitcher, appeared in 10 games for the Golden Eagles and finished with a 3.21 ERA, striking out 16 batters in 14 innings this season. All of his appearances this year for the Golden Eagles were out of the bullpen.
"My coaching staff and I are extremely excited for Cody, his family, our baseball program, and the town of Quincy," stated head coach Terry Baumgartner. "Cody is a very hard worker and a great representative of the FRC Baseball program. This draft reaffirms what we tell our players every day about working hard and improving your baseball skills. Our players put in a lot of time and effort to improve their baseball abilities on the field and in the weight room. Cody does this and more when you include what he does in the classroom and community."
Anderson is expected to return to Feather River for his sophomore season. "We are expecting this draft to push Cody even harder in his continued development as we look forward to having Cody back for his sophomore season," Baumgartner added. The Quincy native is playing this summer with the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox a collegiate summer team located in Marysville, California.
Danny Black is a junior second baseman at the University of Oklahoma. He was named to the all-tournament team for the Norman Regional as the Sooners beat North Carolina to advance to the Super Regional for just the second time in the last six years. The Sooners will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on the Virginia Cavaliers in the Super Regional that begins this Saturday. The winner of the best of three series will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
Black played two seasons for the Golden Eagles in 2008 and 2009. He was a first team all-conference performer both seasons as a shortstop. In 2009 he was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the Golden Valley Conference. The Roseville, California native was also named to the All-Northern California team both seasons for the Golden Eagles.
Former Golden Eagles Begin Regional Play on Friday

Quincy, Ca. - There are four former Feather River College Golden Eagles who begin post-season play tomorrow at the NCAA Division 1 level. Regional play begins tomorrow for the 64 teams selected for the 2010 NCAA Division 1 tournament at sixteen sites across the country. The four former Golden Eagles who will be suiting up for tomorrow's games are:

Oregon State opens play tomorrow against Florida Atlantic in the Gainesville Regional, St. John's plays Mississippi in the Charlottesville Regional, and the University of Oklahoma will host their regional and play Oral Roberts tomorrow. All regionals are a four team double elimination tournament with the winners advancing to next week's Super Regional.
Golden Eagles Selected For Post Season Honors

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College Golden Eagles finished the 2010 season with the best record in the state of California at 31-7. Along with the best record several Golden Eagles were able to pick up individual honors. The Golden Eagles placed six players on the Golden Valley Conference 1st Team and one player was selected to the 2nd Team. The Golden Eagles also were awarded the Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year honors, as well as the Defensive Player of the Year. The Player of the Year was freshman Victor Mendoza (Reno, NV) and the Pitcher of the Year was another freshman Rob Cooper (Windsor, Ontario). Four of the 1st team All-Conference selections were unanimous picks by the conference coaches and they were:

2B - Kyle Stone CF - Dayton Alexander
The other 1st team selections for the Golden Eagles were:
SS - Casey Yocom P - Tyler Hoelzen
The second team selection for the Golden Eagles was catcher Jaret Bogue. Along with the Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, third year head coach Terry Baumgartner was selected as the Golden Valley Conference Coach of the Year for the third straight season.
The Golden Eagles also placed two players on the All Northern California team. Freshman Victor Mendoza was selected as a 1st Team All-American and fellow freshman outfielder Dayton Alexander was selected to the All-Northern California 1st Team.

Golden Eagles Sweep Butte College

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College Golden Eagles swept a two game Golden Valley Conference series from Butte College on Friday and Saturday. The Golden Eagles won a wild game one on Friday at Butte by a score of 22-14 in 12 innings and in game two the Golden Eagles won their final regular season home game by a score of 15-2. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 30-4 on the season and 22-1 in conference.
On Friday the Golden Eagles traveled down to Butte College for a GVC baseball game and a football score broke out as the Golden Eagles won 22-14 in twelve innings. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 29 hits as the top four hitters in their order had 19 of those hits led by sophomore Thomas McCarthy and his 6 for 9 performance with 5 RBI's. The Golden Eagles put up 8 runs in the first inning but Butte battled back to take an 11-9 lead heading into the 7th. The Golden Eagles then struck for five runs in the 7th and 8th to take a 14-11 lead only to watch the Roadrunners score 3 in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game. Both teams went scoreless the next 3 innings before the Golden Eagles struck for 8 runs in the top of the 12th with the big hit of the inning a grand slam by freshman Dayton Alexander to left-center field. Alexander was 5 for 7 with 6 RBI's in the game, fellow freshmen Victor Mendoza and Kyle Stone each added four hits apiece. On the mound the Golden Eagles struggled to find any consistency as they walked ten hitters and hit two Roadrunners and sophomore reliever Tony Robinson picked up his third victory of the season.
On Saturday the Golden Eagles used good pitching to stifle the Butte offense on their way to a 15-2 victory. Freshman lefty Rob Cooper picked up his 7th victory of the season by going six innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run and he struck out two. Sophomore Dylan Giesler pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th innings and freshman Cody Anderson pitched a scoreless 9th with 2 strikeouts. Offensively the Golden Eagles managed 14 hits as every starter had at least one hit. The Golden Eagles broke open a close game with three runs in the 4th, two runs in the 5th, and seven runs in the 6th. Freshman Victor Mendoza had three hits and three RBI's and fellow freshman Dayton Alexander added two hits, two runs, and two RBI's.

Golden Eagles Sweep Lassen and Redwoods to Clinch GVC Title

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College Golden Eagles wrapped up their fourth consecutive Golden Valley Conference title by sweeping Lassen College and College of the Redwoods on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Golden Eagles will now be host to the regional playoffs on Friday, May 7th and Saturday, May 8th against an opponent to be determined on Sunday, May 2nd. The Golden Eagles beat Lassen College on Friday and Saturday by scores of 19-0 and 14-3. The Golden Eagles then swept College of the Redwoods on Sunday in Redding by scores of 16-2 and 20-1. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 28-4 on the season and 20-1 in conference.
In Friday's game at Lassen College the Golden Eagles struck for 12 runs in the fourth inning en route to the 19-0 victory. The Golden Eagles also threw a no hitter, as freshman Aaron Corwin went the first six shutout innings and he struck out nine and fellow freshman Drew Simpson pitched a perfect 7th inning to preserve the no hitter. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 18 hits led by freshman Jaret Bogue as he went 4 for 4 with five RBI's and three runs scored.
On Saturday the Golden Eagles broke open a close game with nine runs in the fourth inning to cruise to the 14-3 victory over Lassen College. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out 19 hits and were led by freshman Kyle Stone and his 4 for 4 day and fellow freshman Grant Marcum went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBI's. On the mound for the Golden Eagles freshman Tyler Hoelzen threw five shutout innings allowing two hits and striking out two to pick up his fifth win on the season.
The Golden Eagles then traveled to Shasta College in Redding on Sunday to take on College of the Redwoods in a make up doubleheader. The Golden Eagles were the visitors in both games and in game one Sunday the Golden Eagles broke open a scoreless game by scoring eight runs in the fifth inning as they won game one by a score of 16-2. The big blast in the fifth inning was by freshman Jaret Bogue as he smacked a grand slam home run over the right field fence. The Golden Eagles offense ended game one with 15 hits led by freshman Kyle Stone and Sophomore Thomas McCarthy as they each went 3 for 4 in the game. Freshman Rob Cooper picked up his sixth victory of the season on the mound as he went five innings, gave up five hits, two runs, and struck out two. Sophomore Joey Webb pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh for the save and the conference clinching victory.
In game two on Sunday the Golden Eagles put up 17 runs in the third inning on their way to the 20-1 victory over Redwoods. The Golden Eagles batted around three times in the third inning and hit three home runs in the inning as well. Freshman AJ Alexander got the homer party started as he hit a two strike three run bomb to left center field. Sophomore Thomas McCarthy followed that up later in the inning with his own three run homer to center and freshman Victor Mendoza went back to back with McCarthy to right field. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out 22 hits as twelve different players had a hit. Freshmen Brett Wise, Patrick Wilhelm-Ioane, and Bryce Gerhardt led the Golden Eagles with three hits each. On the mound the Golden Eagles used a trio of pitchers to shut down the Corsairs. Freshman Chris Mueller started and went the first three innings to pick up the victory as he struck out four. Then sophomores Dylan Giesler and Tony Robinson each worked two scoreless innings to close out the victory.

Golden Eagles Sweep Redwoods and Siskiyous

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College Golden Eagles swept six Golden Valley Conference games over four days against College of the Redwoods and College of the Siskiyous. The Golden Eagles won each game by at least 10 runs and outscored their two opponents by a combined score of 97-11 over the six games at home. With the sweeps the Golden Eagles are now
24-4 on the season and 16-1 in conference.
The six game set started on Wednesday as the Golden Eagles played host to College of the Redwoods and defeated the Corsairs by a score of 13-3. Freshman Aaron Corwin picked up his 7th win of the season by going five innings and allowing six hits while striking out 3. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 13 hits with freshman Victor Mendoza leading the way with two hits, a home run and four RBI's. Freshman Kyle Stone and Sophomore Johnny Crooks each added three hits as well for the Golden Eagles.
On Thursday the Golden Eagles pounded out 14 hits with three of those being home runs as they defeated College of the Redwoods 16-0. The Golden Eagles were led on the mound by freshman Tyler Hoelzen as he worked six shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out two. Freshman Victor Mendoza was the hitting star as he homered twice in the game and also added 5 RBI's. Sophomore Thomas McCarthy was 2-for-2 with a home run for the Golden Eagles as well.
On Friday the Golden Eagles welcomed to town the College of the Siskiyous for a doubleheader and the Golden Eagles won both by scores of 14-0 and 12-2. In game one the Golden Eagles pounded out 19 hits with 6 of those being doubles and 1 home run. On the mound freshman Rob Cooper picked up his fifth victory of the season with six shutout innings as he allowed 6 hits and struck out three. Sophomore Thomas McCarthy led the offense with a 3-for-4 effort, a home run and 5 RBI's and freshman Dayton Alexander added two hits and 4 RBI's. In game two of the doubleheader the Golden Eagles fell behind 1-0 before the offense took control of the game and led the Golden Eagles to the 12-2 victory. Freshmen Dayton Alexander and Victor Mendoza led the offensive fireworks, as Alexander was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI's and a home run and Mendoza was 2-for-5 with 5 RBI's and a home run. On the mound sophomore Dylan Giesler pitched a solid 5 innings to pick up the victory and fellow sophomore Jason Sirak pitched a scoreless 3 innings to pick up his first save of the season.
The final day of the six game homestand saw the Golden Eagles play a day/night doubleheader. In game one the Golden Eagles played host to College of the Siskiyous and the nightcap saw the Golden Eagles play College of the Redwoods. In the afternoon game vs. College of the Siskiyous the offense erupted for 27 runs and 30 hits as sixteen different hitters recorded a base hit in the 27-2 victory. On the mound freshman Chris Mueller went five solid innings to pick up his third victory of the season and fellow freshman Cody Anderson pitched two scoreless innings of relief. In the evening game the Golden Eagles hosted College of the Redwoods and defeated the Corsairs 15-4. Sophomore Tony Robinson, in his first start of the season, pitched three solid innings to pick up his second victory of the season. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 16 hits with a trio of freshman leading the way. Freshman catcher Jaret Bogue went 2-for-2 and had four RBI's with a grand slam home run, fellow freshman outfielder Patrick Wilhelm-Ioane went 3-for-4, and freshman 1st baseman Victor Mendoza was 2-for-3.

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College Golden Eagles used good pitching, great defense, and timely hitting to sweep a three game Golden Valley Conference series from Shasta College. The Golden Eagles opened up the series on Friday with an 11-0 win and followed that up on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep by scores of 11-3 and 11-1. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 16-4 on the season and 10-1 in conference.
On Friday the Golden Eagles rode the pitching arm of freshman Aaron Corwin, as he threw six scoreless innings while striking out four in the 11-0 victory. The offense for the Golden Eagles struck early as they scored four runs in the first, one in the second, and three in the third to stake Corwin to an 8-0 lead after three innings. Fellow freshman Cody Anderson, Drew Simpson, and Nick Dufur finished up the shutout by pitching a scoreless inning apiece. Offensively the Golden Eagles banged out eleven hits led by freshman Dayton Alexander and his 3 hits, 4 RBI's and a home run. Sophomore Thomas McCarthy also added two hits as did freshman Casey Yocom.
In Saturday's first game freshman Dayton Alexander once again led the offense with his three hits and two RBI's as the Golden Eagles won game one of the doubleheader 11-3. The offense pounded out 12 hits all together with nine different players getting at least one hit. Freshman Casey Yocom was the other Golden Eagle who had a multi-hit game as he had two hits and scored two runs and fellow freshman Hunter Graves homered for the Golden Eagles. On the mound a trio of Golden Eagles carried the load with freshman Tyler Hoelzen getting his third victory of the season with his five innings of work. Hoelzen allowed three hits, one run, and struck out five. Sophomores Dylan Giesler and Joey Webb finished up the last four innings for the Golden Eagles. In the second game on Saturday the Golden Eagles used an 8 run second inning to cruise to the 11-1 victory and the sweep of the series. Freshman lefty Rob Cooper picked up his third victory of the season as he went five solid innings allowing one run, two hits, and he struck out eight. Freshman Chris Mueller, sophomore Tony Robinson, and freshman Cody Anderson finished off the victory in relief allowing no runs. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out thirteen hits in the second game. Four freshmen led the way with two hits apiece; Dayton Alexander, AJ Alexander, Kolt Canaday and Victor Mendoza. Dayton Alexander also homered and drove in three runs and Mendoza also homered in drove in two.
Up next for the Golden Eagles is a two game non-conference road trip to Modesto to take on Modesto Junior College on Tuesday at 2:00 pm. Golden Eagles Win Series Over Butte

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College baseball team won 2 out of 3 games over GVC rival Butte College on Friday and Saturday. Friday's single game was the second home game of the season for the Golden Eagles as they won 9-5. On Saturday the Golden Eagles traveled to Butte College for a doubleheader and split the two games losing game one 10-7 and winning game two 11-1. With the series win the golden eagles are now 13-4 on the season and 7-1 in Golden Valley Conference play.
On Friday, the Golden Eagles were able to hold on for the 9-5 victory behind the starting pitching of freshman Aaron Corwin. The freshman right-hander from Corvallis, Oregon pitched 6 2/3 innings striking out 7 and walking 1 to get his fourth victory of the season. Sophomore Tony Robinson pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings and fellow sophomore Jason Sirak pitched a scoreless ninth. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 12 hits in the contest led by freshman Victor Mendoza and his 2 doubles and 4 RBI's. Sophomore Thomas McCarthy added 3 hits and an RBI for the Golden Eagles.
On Saturday the Golden Eagles left 14 runners on base in the 10-7 game one loss to Butte. The Golden Eagles pounded out 16 hits but not enough hits with runners in scoring position. The Golden Eagles had four players collect three hits in the game led by sophomore Johnny Crooks and a trio of freshman, Casey Yocom, Victor Mendoza, and Kyle Stone. In Saturday's second game Feather River fell behind 1-0 after three innings and then scored 11 unanswered runs to win 11-1 in seven innings. Once again the offense stepped up for the Golden Eagles as they pounded out 15 hits in the game. Freshmen Victor Mendoza, Casey Yocom, and Kyle Stone each had 3 hits apiece in game two. On the mound for the Golden Eagles, freshman left-hander Rob Cooper threw a complete game four hitter, allowing no earned runs and striking out one to collect his third victory of the season.

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College Golden Eagles completed a three game sweep of the Lassen College Cougars on Monday by a score of 17-3. The Golden Eagles swept the cougars on Sunday in Susanville by scores of 16-2 and 13-2. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the Golden Valley Conference.
On Sunday the Golden Eagles used a 6 run first inning and a 4 run second inning to cruise to the 16-2 victory in game one. The Golden Eagles pounded out 14 hits as eleven different players had at least one hit. Leading the way with two hits apiece were freshmen Kyle Stone and Casey Yocom and sophomore Thomas McCarthy. For the golden eagles freshmen Jaret Bogue and Hunter Graves each hit home runs, while fellow freshman Dayton Alexander added two RBI's along with McCarthy driving in two runs. On the mound the golden eagles used a trio of pitchers with freshman starter Aaron Corwin picking up his third win of the season. Corwin went the first four innings and he allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run, walked none, and struck out 8. Sophomore Jason Sirak and freshman Nick Dufur finished the last three innings, with Sirak striking out four in his two innings of work.
In game two on Sunday the golden eagles struck early once again as they plated 7 runs in the first and 3 in the second in the 13-2 victory. The golden eagles pounded out 12 hits in game two. The offense was led by the freshmen trio of Kyle Stone, Casey Yocom, and Victor Mendoza as they each had two hits. On the mound for the golden eagles freshmen Rob Cooper picked up his second win of the season. Cooper went the first four innings and didn't allow a run as he struck out five and gave up two hits. Freshman Drew Simpson came on in the fifth and pitched a scoreless inning while striking out one. Fellow freshman Cody Anderson pitched two innings allowing 2 runs and striking out 2.
The third game of the series was also the 2010 home opener for the Golden Eagles. The golden eagles struck for nine runs in the bottom of the second to cruise to the 17-3 victory over the cougars. The golden eagles offense once again was the highlight of the day as they pounded out 20 hits on the afternoon. The offense was led by freshmen brothers Dayton and AJ Alexander as they each went 3-3 on the day with a home run. Dayton collected 2 RBI's and AJ had 5 RBI's and freshman Kolt Canaday and sophomore Johnny Crooks each added two hits. Freshman Aaron Corwin also collected 3 RBI's as he hit his first home run of the season. On the mound the golden eagles used five different pitchers to limit the cougars to three runs and freshman Tyler Hoelzen picked up his second victory of the season.

Quincy, Ca. - The Feather River College Golden Eagles got back to their winning ways this weekend with a three game sweep of Yuba College. In Friday's series opening game the golden eagles won 3-2 and then swept Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 7-6 and 6-2. With the sweep the golden eagles are now 6-3 on the season.
In the series opener on Friday the golden eagles were able to come back from an early two run deficit by scoring two runs in the 7th and one run in the 9th to get the victory 3-2. Freshman Aaron Corwin started the game for the golden eagles and through eight solid innings giving up 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 5 to collect his first collegiate win. In the ninth the golden eagles used three different pitchers to shut down the forty-niners, with freshman Chris Mueller collecting his second save of the season. Offensively the golden eagles outhit the forty-niners 9 to 4 as a trio of freshman provided the offensive spark for FRC. The trio was led by Kyle Stone and his 3 hits and two RBI's and fellow freshman Casey Yocom and AJ Alexander added two hits apiece as well.
In Saturday's first game of the doubleheader the Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead and then watched the forty-niners come back and tie the game at 6 in the 7th due the golden eagles sloppy defense. The golden eagles bounced back though and scored the winning run in the 8th to win 7-6. The FRC pitching was once again very dominant as they only allowed 1 earned run in the contest and a trio of relievers once again slammed the door. Sophomore Joey Webb picked up his second victory of the season in relief and freshman Chris Mueller nailed down the final out for his third save of the season. Offensively the golden eagles outhit the niners 11 to 7 and the golden eagles had four guys get two hits in the game. Sophomore Johnny Crooks hit his first home run of the season in the third as he finished with two hits on the day and freshman Jaret Bogue hit his second home run of the season in the second inning. Also freshmen, Victor Mendoza, Kyle Stone, and AJ Alexander each had two hits. In the nightcap of the doubleheader the golden eagles scored in 5 of the 9 innings and had 10 stolen bases as they defeated Yuba College 6-2 to sweep the series. Offensively the golden eagles pounded out 14 hits, as six starter had at least two hits. Freshmen Casey Yocom, Kolt Canaday, Bryce Gerhardt, AJ Alexander and sophomore Thomas McCarthy all had two hits for the golden eagles. Another freshman Taylor Bates added 3 hits, 2 stolen bases, and 2 runs scored for the golden eagles. The golden eagles got an impressive start from freshman lefty Rob Cooper, as he went 5 innings allowing 4 hits, 0 earned runs, and struck out two. The bullpen once again came in to close the door for the golden eagles as sophomores Tony Robinson and Dylan Giesler and freshman Chris Mueller pitched the final four innings allowing one hit and no earned runs.
Up next for the Golden Eagles is a road trip to College of the Redwoods on March 3rd to begin Golden Valley Conference play. They will play a doubleheader with Redwoods and then head to College of the Siskiyous for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 6th. Golden Eagles Open 2010 Season With A Sweep

Quincy, Ca. - The Golden Eagles baseball squad kicked off the 2010 season with a 3-0 record at the Taft College baseball tournament. The golden eagles played a doubleheader on Thursday against Taft and swept the doubleheader by scores of 4-3 and 11-9 with the second game going extra innings. On Friday the golden eagles defeated Cabrillo College by a score of 5-4.
In Thursday's first game the golden eagles came back from a 3-2 deficit by scoring two runs in the top of the 8th to take a 4-3 win over Taft College. The golden eagles got a strong pitching performance from a trio of pitchers led by freshman starter, Aaron Corwin. Corwin got the season opening start and provided the golden eagles with 6 1/3 innings of three hit baseball while striking out four and walking four. Sophomore Joey Webb picked up the victory with 1 2/3 innings of two hit ball with one strikeout. Freshman closer Chris Mueller picked up his first save by throwing a scoreless ninth with one strikeout. Offensively the golden eagles could only muster six hits but they made the most of them. Sophomore David Leid drove in the go ahead run in the top of the 8th with an infield single. In game two the golden eagles were able to break out the sticks as they pounded out 11 hits on their way to an 11-9 victory over Taft. The golden eagles were led offensively by freshman catcher Jaret Bogue, as he went 3-5 with four RBI's and a home run. Freshmen AJ Alexander and Bryce Gerhardt each added two hits and fellow freshman Casey Yocom drove in the winning runs in the top of the 10th with a two RBI single. On the mound freshman Chris Mueller picked up the win as he threw two innings of shutout baseball while striking out four.
On Friday the golden eagles played Cabrillo College and they were able to overcome a 4-1 deficit to win 5-4. Offensively the golden eagles pounded out 8 hits with freshmen brothers AJ and Dayton Alexander leading the way with two hits apiece. On the mound the golden eagles used four different pitchers to pick up the win. Sophomore Tony Robinson picked up the win in relief with 2 1/3 innings of shutout baseball and fellow sophomore Joey Webb picked up his first save of the season.
Up next for the Golden Eagles is a three game road trip to Sacramento where they will play Cosumnes River on Thursday, American River on Friday, and Sierra College on Saturday. All three games are slated to be on the radio and streamed over the web. Quincy, Ca. - The successful 2009 season has allowed 14 former Golden Eagles to continue their collegiate baseball careers at four year universities across the country. The 2009 Golden Eagles finished the season with a state best 42-5 record and advanced to the California Super Regionals for the second straight year.
