Dr. Karen Pierson is Chief Student Services Officer. Prior to arriving at FRC in 2011, Karen served as vice-president for student development at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) for 14 years. In this role she was responsible for oversight of all student and academic support services including athletics, student housing, enrollment management, clubs and activities, high school outreach, the student learning center, and student safety and discipline. She also served as coordinator of a title III grant designed to improve student success and retention. She was active in her community by serving on the Mason City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is active in the Methodist church. Prior to her work at NIACC Karen served two other community colleges in Iowa as a counselor, and as an instructional dean with responsibility for developing Tech Prep and high school partnerships. She has served as an Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) peer evaluator for the North Central Higher Education Commission, and a peer evaluator for several Iowa community colleges.
